MJX Hyper Go 16212 vs 16213 vs 16218, Which of the new 2026 MJX range should you buy?

If you've been looking at the refreshed 2026 MJX Hyper Go 1:16 range, you might be wondering what's actually changed from the old lineup, and if this is your first look at MJX at all, which of the three you should go for. Let me break it down properly.
I've had all three through my hands, so this isn't guesswork.

What's actually new for 2026
Worth spelling out what MJX have changed across the whole range, because it's a genuine step forward and not just a cynical rebadge.
A much bigger battery in the box. All three ship with a 2S 2000mAh battery, nearly double the capacity of what the old range came with. That means longer runtimes and, more importantly, a proper punch off the line. On the stock 2S you're now looking at up to 46km/h in ideal conditions on a smooth surface, meaningfully faster than the old range managed on its smaller stock 2S pack. Fit a 3S pack and you'll see up to 70km/h in the same conditions. Same 2845 four-pole brushless motor and 45A ESC underneath, so it's not a raw power upgrade, it's that the new pack can actually feed the motor properly.
A variable throttle limiter dial on the transmitter. This is the one that will matter most to a lot of parents. The old range's transmitter had a two-position switch: 70% or 100%. That's it. The new T3D transmitter has a proper adjustable pot, a dial you can turn, that lets you set the top speed anywhere between a crawl and full send. For a young or brand new driver you can dial it right down, and gradually turn it up as their skills grow. It's a small physical change with a huge practical impact.
Better bodies (mostly). The 16218 keeps the 16208's aggressive monster truck styling almost identically, because it was already a stunner & there was nothing to fix. The 16212 gets a much better-looking body than the outgoing 16210, same monster truggy character, but a body that finally matches the performance. The 16213 replaces the old low-slung 16207 with a proper race truggy shell (and includes a second shell in the box, more on that below).
Everything else stays. Same durable chassis, same metal drivetrain (drive shaft, powder metallurgy gears, CVDs, differentials), same metal oil-filled shocks, same full ball bearings, same water-resistant electronics. If you already know the old range, you're getting all of what worked, plus the improvements above.
What sets the three apart
Here's where the new lineup differs from the old one in an important way. The old range separated its four models mostly on ride height: low, mid, tall. The new range separates on body style and character, because the 16212 truggy and the 16213 buggy actually share the same 33mm ride height. So when you're choosing, don't get too fixated on ride height between those two, it's more about what kind of driving experience you want.
16218, the monster truck
Tallest ride height in the range at 40mm. Big chunky off-road tyres, aggressive stance, the most off-road-capable of the three. It's the direct successor to the 16208, our best-selling RC car of 2025, and it deliberately looks near-identical to the outgoing model, because almost everybody loved the 16208. It was MJX's first massive sales success that brought them to the mainstream. What's changed is what's in the box: a lot of 16208 owners ended up modifying theirs to take bigger batteries, because the stock pack was the one weak spot. MJX have now sorted that. If you're not sure where you'll be driving most of the time, or this is your first hobby-grade RC, this is the one to go for.
16213, the driver's car
Low, sleek race truggy body with a proper rear wing. Sharpest handling of the three. Where the 16212 truggy and 16218 monster truck are about presence and off-road capability, the 16213 is the one to reach for if you want a car that rewards precise driving.
You also get a bit more in the box than the other two. There are two body shells, a blue-white-yellow #2 race livery and a black-and-yellow stealth shell, so you can change the look when the mood takes you. And you get two sets of tyres: a knobblier off-road tread for grass and loose dirt, and a smoother lower-profile hardpack/rally/drift-style set for tarmac and hard-packed ground. Not a night-and-day transformation between them, but a nice option to have if you switch surfaces regularly.
16212, the truggy middle ground
Same 33mm ride height as the 16213 but with a taller, more upright truggy body, wider track, and beefier off-road tyres. It's the goldilocks option: more capable off-road than the 16213's low truggy stance, but a bit more planted and easier to corner fast than the 16218 monster truck. If you liked the outgoing 16210 but always wished the body looked as good as it drove, what you want is the 16212.
So which should you actually buy?
16218, the safe answer for most people. If it's for a child, a first RC car, a gift, or you're not sure where you'll be driving most of the time, this is the one. Highest clearance, most forgiving, most versatile, and the direct successor to our 2025 best-seller. Now with the bigger battery the 16208 always deserved.
16213, if you want the sharpest, fastest driving experience on hard surfaces. Low, sleek, quick. Best for tarmac, gravel, hardpack, and drivers who know they want outright performance over versatility. The extra shell and second set of tyres in the box are a nice bonus if you like to swap things about.
16212, the middle-ground truggy. More versatile than the 16213, a bit sharper on tarmac and hardpack than the 16218. If the monster truck style doesn't quite do it for you, and the low-slung race truggy isn't your thing either, this is the one. And it looks brilliant.
